It’s been four and a half years since the United States overthrew the dictatorship of Saddam Hussein. After free elections last year it looked as if some form of democracy might take root in Iraq. But given the now daily terrorist attacks and rising sectarian violence, have these hopes died? Part of the problem is the destabilizing influence of Iran. Another is the threat of an all-out civil war between the Shia and Sunni in Iraq and beyond.

What is the American endgame for Iraq? How would a U.S. withdrawal from Iraq impact the larger Middle East? And finally, how will events in Iraq shape the 2008 Primaries and the race to the White House?

These are some of the key questions the inaugural Teatro Speakers Series will explore through the on-the-ground insights of four of America’s leading commentators.
